Terms of Service

Polix is a mobile and web application operated by POLIX LLC, a Kentucky limited liability company (“Polix,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Our contact email is info@polix.io.

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and POLIX LLC governing your access to and use of Polix, including any content, features, and services we offer (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Polix. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from or provide services to anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete the account and associated data.

You may use Polix only if you can form a binding contract with POLIX LLC and only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. Polix is intended for users located in the United States. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available for use outside the United States.

To use Polix, you must create an account using Google Sign-In. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your login credentials secure, and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized access. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You may choose a unique username during signup. Usernames must comply with our content rules (Section 7) and must not impersonate another person, infringe trademarks, or contain offensive content. We may reclaim inactive usernames or usernames that violate these rules.

You may close your account at any time through the Settings screen. See Section 10 for what happens to your data when you do.

Polix delivers a daily digest of short political news briefings and poll questions. Each morning at 9:00 AM Eastern Time, you will receive briefings selected based on your stated topic interests. You may answer poll questions attached to each briefing. Your answers build a personalized “political compass” that reflects your positions across economic and social dimensions.

About the briefings. Polix briefings are original summaries generated by artificial intelligence from multiple underlying news sources. Each briefing lists the sources it drew from and links to those original articles. The briefings are intended as concise, neutral overviews, not as comprehensive or authoritative reporting.

About AI-generated content — important. AI systems, including the ones that produce Polix briefings, can make mistakes. They can misstate facts, attribute claims incorrectly, omit important context, or produce content that is subtly biased despite efforts to the contrary. Polix uses a fact-checking system and human review to reduce errors, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy of any briefing. Do not rely on Polix briefings as a sole source of information for any consequential decision. Always verify important information against the original sources we cite or other reliable reporting.

About the political compass. The compass is a visualization of your stated agreement or disagreement with a series of policy-oriented statements. It is not a scientific or clinical measurement. It does not predict your behavior, your voting patterns, or your beliefs on issues we have not asked you about. It is a reflection of the specific answers you have given on Polix and nothing more.

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We may add features, remove features, adjust how the compass is calculated, change the sources we draw from, or modify any other part of Polix. We are not liable to you for any such changes.

When using Polix, you agree not to:

• Violate any law or the rights of any other person
• Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorized to access
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or derive the source code of the Service
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
• Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm any other person
• Use the Service to transmit malware or other harmful code
• Submit false, misleading, or manipulative answers in an attempt to skew aggregate data
• Create multiple accounts to circumvent suspensions or game the Service in any way
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for any violation of these rules, for any violation of these Terms, or for any other reason we consider appropriate. We will generally try to give notice where practical, but we are not required to.

Our content.POLIX LLC owns all rights in the Service, including the Polix name and logo, the app's design, the compass visualization, the briefings and polls we generate, our source code, and all other content we create. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any of this content without our written permission. You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

Source materials. The news articles that our briefings draw from are owned by their respective publishers. We do not claim ownership of those underlying articles. Links we provide to original sources are for your convenience.

Your feedback. If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about Polix, we may use them without any obligation to you and without compensation.

Polix does not currently offer features that allow users to post comments, messages, profiles visible to others, or other content directed at other users. We may introduce such features in the future. When we do, additional rules will govern that content and we will notify you of any material changes to these Terms.

Your use of Polix is subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

You may delete your account at any time through the Settings screen. When you delete your account, we will:

• Permanently delete your profile information, including your email address, username, Google-provided name, and account settings
• Permanently delete your streak history, XP history, and compass score history
• Disconnect your historical poll responses from any information that identifies you, so that the responses can no longer be traced back to you

We retain the disconnected, anonymized poll responses for ongoing analysis, research, and the operation of the Service. Once responses are disconnected from your identity, we consider them no longer personal information about you.

Some information may persist in backups, logs, or cached systems for a limited period after deletion. We use reasonable efforts to purge these within a rolling period of no more than 90 days.

Polix integrates with third-party services, including Google (for Sign-In) and our hosting provider. When you interact with these services through Polix, the third party's own terms and privacy policies also apply. We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them is at your own risk.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, POLIX LLC disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and availability.

Without limiting the foregoing, POLIX LLC does not warrant that:

• The briefings are factually accurate or complete
• The compass accurately reflects your political views
• The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
• Any errors in the Service will be corrected

You use the Service at your own risk. Polix is not a substitute for professional journalism, political analysis, legal advice, financial advice, or any other professional advice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, POLIX LLC and its owners, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising out of or relating to the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00) or the amount you have paid us in the previous twelve months, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless POLIX LLC and its owners, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any rights of another person; or (d) any content you submit through the Service.

Informal resolution. If you have a dispute with Polix, please first contact us at info@polix.io. We will try in good faith to resolve the dispute informally. You agree not to bring a formal proceeding for at least 60 days after you give us notice of the dispute.

Binding arbitration.Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitration will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, or remotely, at your option. The arbitrator's decision will be final and binding.

No class actions. You and POLIX LLC agree that any disputes will be brought only in our individual capacities, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class or representative action.

Exceptions. Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for claims relating to intellectual property rights, or bring an individual claim in small-claims court, in lieu of arbitration.

30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing info@polix.iowith the subject line “Arbitration Opt-Out” and including your account email. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the courts specified in Section 16.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. If any dispute is not subject to arbitration under Section 15, it will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and both parties consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service, by email, or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and POLIX LLC regarding the Service, and supersede all prior agreements.

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.

No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.

Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign these Terms to any successor, affiliate, or purchaser of the Service, with or without notice.

Notices. We may provide notices to you through the Service, by email to your registered address, or by other reasonable means. You may send notices to us at info@polix.io.
