Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how POLIX LLC, a Kentucky limited liability company (“Polix,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use Polix.

Information you provide directly.

• Username. The unique handle you choose when you sign up.
• Topic interests. The political topics you select during onboarding.
• Onboarding quiz answers. Your responses to the initial 10-question political compass quiz.
• Poll responses. Your answers to the 1-3 poll questions attached to each daily briefing. These responses are the core of how Polix works and are used to build and update your personal political compass.
• Notification preferences. Whether you've enabled push notifications.

Information from Google Sign-In.

When you sign in with Google, Google provides us with:

• Your email address
• Your Google profile name (first and last name)
• Your Google profile picture URL
• A Google account identifier used to authenticate your session

Information we collect automatically.

• Device information: device type, operating system, app version.
• Approximate location: country and general region, derived from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
• Usage data: which articles you read, which polls you answer, your XP and streak activity, and your compass position over time.
• Diagnostic data: if the app crashes or encounters an error, we may collect information about what happened to help us fix bugs.

What we do not collect.

• We do not collect your full address, phone number, date of birth, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or other sensitive demographic categories.
• We do not collect your precise GPS location.
• We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone access, camera access, or any other information your device offers that we haven't listed above.
• We do not collect payment information. Polix is free.
• We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

If we decide to collect additional categories of information in the future — for example, demographic information to provide more personalized analysis — we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required by law or by the sensitivity of the data, ask for your explicit consent at the time of collection.

Polix is a political app. The poll responses and compass scores we collect reveal your positions on political and policy issues. We understand this is sensitive, and we take it seriously.

• Your individual poll responses and compass scores are visible only to you. We do not display this information to other users, and we will not introduce features that do without notifying you first and obtaining any legally required consent.
• We do not use your political data to serve you advertising. We do not serve advertising at all.
• We do not sell your political data. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
• We may use aggregated, anonymized insights drawn from our user base (for example, “Polix users broadly supported X policy”) for research, content, and the operation of the Service. When we do this, the insights are aggregated across many users and cannot be traced back to you.

We use your information to:

• Run the app. Authenticate you, personalize your daily feed based on your topic interests, calculate and display your political compass, track your streaks and XP, and send notifications you've opted into.
• Improve the app. Understand how people use Polix, identify bugs, and develop new features.
• Keep the app safe. Detect fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
• Communicate with you. Send transactional messages (e.g., account-related notifications, responses to your support requests). In the future, we may send optional product announcements, and you will be able to opt out.
• Comply with law. Meet legal obligations, respond to legal process, and enforce our Terms of Service.

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers. We use a limited number of third-party services to operate Polix — most notably Google (for Sign-In) and our hosting and infrastructure provider Base44. These providers may process your information on our behalf in accordance with their own privacy policies. We contract with them to protect your data and not use it for their own purposes beyond providing services to us.
• Aggregated and anonymized data. We may share aggregated, anonymized insights with the public, partners, or researchers. Aggregated data cannot identify you.
• Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or investigate fraud.
• Business transfers. If Polix is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing or advertising purposes.

We keep your information as long as your account is active. Specifically:

• Account information (email, username, Google-provided name and picture, settings): kept until you delete your account.
• Poll responses and compass history: while your account is active, these are linked to your account so we can show your compass and history. When you delete your account, we permanently sever the link between these responses and your identity. The disconnected responses are retained in anonymized form for ongoing analysis.
• Usage and diagnostic data: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymized.
• Backup and log data: may persist in backups for up to 90 days after deletion before being fully purged.

You can delete your account at any time through the Settings screen in the app. When you do:

• We permanently delete your profile information, including your email, username, Google-provided name and picture, and settings.
• We permanently delete your streak history, XP history, and compass score history.
• We sever the connection between your historical poll responses and any information that identifies you, so those responses are no longer personal information about you.
• Your account becomes inaccessible to you.

Once severance is complete, we cannot restore your account. If you change your mind, you would need to create a new account.

You can also request deletion by emailing info@polix.io. We will verify your identity and process the request within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws. These generally include:

• The right to access the personal information we hold about you
• The right to correct inaccurate personal information
• The right to delete your personal information (see Section 7)
• The right to opt out of certain processing

To exercise any of these rights, email info@polix.iofrom the email address associated with your account. We will verify your identity before responding. We will respond within 30 days, or within the timeframe required by your jurisdiction's law if shorter.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. Specifically, we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a lower quality of service because you exercised a privacy right.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides you additional rights.

Categories of personal information we collect.

In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA:

• Identifiers (email, username, Google account identifier, IP address-derived region)
• Internet or network activity (usage within the app)
• Inferences about preferences (your compass scores derived from your answers)
• Sensitive personal information: your poll responses reveal political views

Sources. We collect this information directly from you, from Google (through Sign-In), and automatically as you use the app.

Purposes. We use this information for the purposes described in Section 4.

Sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the CCPA.

Your CCPA rights.

• Right to know what personal information we've collected about you
• Right to delete personal information we've collected
• Right to correct inaccurate information
• Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. You have the right to limit our use of your sensitive personal information (your poll responses) to what is necessary to provide the Service. We already limit our use of this information to providing the Service and to anonymized aggregate analysis; we do not use it for any of the purposes from which you can opt out under CCPA. • Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights

How to exercise CCPA rights. Email info@polix.io from your account email address. We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days (or the legally required timeframe).

Authorized agents. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. The agent must provide written authorization signed by you, and we may require you to verify your identity directly with us.

We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and security practices provided by our infrastructure partners. No security system is perfect, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet. If we learn of a data breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Polix is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a person under 18, email info@polix.io and we will delete it.

Polix is intended for users in the United States. We do not direct the Service to residents of the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions outside the United States. If you access Polix from outside the United States, you do so at your own initiative and you are responsible for compliance with local laws.

Polix may link to third-party websites or services (for example, when we link to the original sources of articles we've summarized). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Some browsers transmit “Do Not Track” signals. Because there is no consistent industry standard for how these should be handled, Polix does not currently respond to them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service, by email, or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
